La función que este manual ofrece es doble. Por un lado, se trata de una obra de consulta imprescindible para la asignatura de Didáctica de la Lengua Castellana y la Literatura que se imparte en los distintos másteres que preparan para el acceso a la docencia en secundaria; por otro, servirá de apoyo y ayuda a todos los docentes de esta asignatura, tanto a aquellos que llevan años ejerciendo como a los que se acercan por primera vez a esta profesión. Propone, por ello, una perspectiva novedosa para afrontar la asignatura Lengua Castellana y Literatura: destaca los lazos que se pueden establecer entre los diferentes temas y especialidades que se tratan en la etapa de la enseñanza secundaria en esta materia (frente a la consideración actual de que la lengua y la literatura son dos disciplinas que nada tienen que ver la una con la otra). Asimismo, este manual pretende establecer sinergias entre la docencia de secundaria y las nuevas formas de enfrentarse a la lingüística y la literatura desde las universidades y los centros de investigación. Con este fin, lejos de romper con lo que los docentes llevan haciendo años, se propone que utilicen sus conocimientos y métodos para configurar una asignatura más reflexiva, donde el estudiante indague por sí mismo y se haga las preguntas adecuadas, que deberá contestar, por supuesto, orientado por el docente. Belén Almeida Cabrejas es profesora titular de Lengua Española en la Universidad de Alcalá, donde imparte clase en los grados de Estudios Hispánicos y Magisterio y en el máster de Formación del Profesorado. Sara Bellido Sánchez es profesora asociada de Literatura Española en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y en la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, así como secretaria general de la Fundación Ramón Menéndez Pidal. Ha impartido docencia en los grados de Magisterio, Español: Lengua y Literatura y Periodismo, y en el máster de Formación del Profesorado. Silvia Gumiel Molina es profesora titular de Lengua Española de la Universidad de Alcalá. Imparte docencia en los grados de Humanidades, Magisterio y Estudios Hispánicos, así como en varios másteres relacionados con la lengua española.

Toutes les religions ont voulu traduire les aspirations les plus profondes de l'âme humaine. Aussi, hier comme aujourd'hui, il y aurait grand tort à les considérer comme antagonistes. Ne sont-elles pas par définition les produits d'un syncrétisme ? L'historien sait bien qu'aucune religion n'a eu de naissance comparable à celle de la déesse Athéna, jaillie tout armée du cerveau de Zeus. Par cet ouvrage, André Neyton indique les cheminements qui ont permis au paganisme de participer si largement à l'élaboration de la synthèse chrétienne.
Les croyances païennes doivent être pensées de façon extensive, en termes d'influences iraniennes (mystères de Mithra, mazdéisme), égyptiennes (mystères d'Isis), grecques (orphisme, pythagorisme), voire d'influences gnostiques ou orientales. Ces clefs, c'est-à-dire ces moyens d'explication, permettent une compréhension plus profonde du dogme chrétien. Les épisodes de la vie du Christ (de l'Annonciation à la Résurrection) et les miracles sont comparés à leurs parallèles païens.
D'autres échos s'accordent avec des figures telles que la Sainte Vierge ou l'Esprit saint, tout comme des analogies existent entre Paradis, Enfer et leurs équivalents issus des paganismes. En fin d'ouvrage, c'est par le biais des fêtes, rituels et symboles que l'auteur dresse des ponts entre la religion révélée et le terreau de croyances qui l'a vue se développer. En s'appuyant sur les textes sacrés et leurs commentateurs, toujours respectueux de la foi, ce travail érudit échappe à tout sectarisme ou apologétique pour insister sur la nécessité de la tolérance.
